As the rainy season drags on through February, students are struggling with where to sit at break and lunch due to the wet climate. Due to numerous benches being placed out in the open without an overhang, students often find trouble staying dry.
Although there are a few open buildings, such as teacher classrooms, the CCC, the library, and the Wellness Center, during break, the library doesn’t allow “social groups” or “sitting.’ It is only to be used for library business and studying.
As the weather grows more severe during this winter and into spring, the library’s lack of student seating during break’s 15-minutes causes trouble. Although there are alternatives to sitting in the library, like the wellness center, places such as those are a lot smaller and cannot fit the number of students who are in search of a dry, warm place.
Some students, such as Cayden Waldrop, sophomore, explained that he sits at the tennis courts under the overhang when it’s raining. However, Samuel Harris, freshman, says he tries to go to the library when it’s raining, but when it’s closed, he tries to find benches with an overhang.
The lack of seating causes many students to be drenched, cold, and uncomfortable, possibly leading to a lack of focus in classrooms.
