Dragons Boys Cross Country

As the SVHS boys’ cross country team ran their first ever home meet as a part of the new Vine Valley Athletic League (VVAL) on Sept. 26, it also was senior night at Maxwell Park for the 2.75 mile race.

Freshman Jared Cordero described the seniors, explaining, “The seniors are all super cool and Max [Handron] has become my favorite on the team.” The senior boys include Erik Serbicki, Gabe Lanusse, Jack Craig, Justin Cox, and Handron.

The Dragons placed fifth out of seven VVAL teams in attendance with Cox turning in the top time for the Dragons. Cox placed 20th overall with a time of 16:29. Junior, Nate Jordan finished second for Sonoma placing 34th overall with a time of 17:15.

“Every team in our new league is good and the competition is a lot harder this year,” explains junior Luis Esteva. “However, we are projected to compete in NCS [North Coast Sectionals],” mentions Esteva.

Looking to finish the season strong, the Dragons’ next league meet is on Oct. 24 at Alston Park in Napa. Start time is scheduled for around 3:45 p.m.
