In solidarity and support, students came together for Mental Health Week, organized by the school’s Leadership class and Wellness Center. Throughout the week of October, various activities and initiatives were implemented to promote mental well-being and encourage open conversations about personal struggles.
Starting with “Motivational Monday.” Included an interactive face painting activity at lunch, and an index card activity in class where students could anonymously share something weighing on them, which were then collected by Leadership on October 2nd.
With an introduction to “Thoughtful Tuesday.” Leadership created an anonymous tree at lunch, using the index cards with personal messages written by students which were collected from classrooms the previous day. Students were seen reading the heartfelt messages on October 3rd which were shared by their peers at break and lunch.
Wellness Wednesday provided students with an opportunity to prioritize their mental health. After school, students gathered in Golton Hall for a rejuvenating yoga session led by Ms. Rossi. “You’re Not Alone” boards, created by the school’s Leadership team, were displayed on October 4th during lunch. Students were encouraged to place heart-shaped sticky notes alongside the boards, sharing their own experiences.
The week culminated with “Thankful Thursday.” Therapy dogs were brought onto campus, providing a warm and welcoming presence for students on October 5th. Students enjoyed petting the dogs who are specifically trained in mental health.
Through the collaborative efforts of the school’s Leadership, and Wellness Center, and participation of the students, Mental Health Week at SVHS fostered open conversations, encouraged empathy, and reminded students of the importance of mental well–being.
