SVHS annually holds the Powderpuff football game at the Midgley Field. Traditionally, two teams of senior girls and juniors play against each other in a flag football game. This year there was a change to the usual traditions, the funds in the past were dedicated to breast cancer awareness despite this year the funds made from this night going to Leadership.
The first half of the game had technical issues due to the microphone having trouble working. There were not many in attendance compared to years prior but there was still a good turnout. Senior girls had a high lead starting 8-0 with Kayla Amormino landing the first touchdown with a strong competition against the juniors.
Juniors had one touch down by Sarah Juhasz but was revoked due to a penalty by an illegal block from the juniors. The senior class, still in the lead, scored 14-0. The ending score was shown to be 44-18 with seniors for the win.
Although there’s been controversy around the final score allegedly being incorrect. In total the junior girls had three touchdowns. While many can agree that Powderpuff was a good game and made more funds for the leadership class, in one statement by Porter Abodeely freshman claimed that “I think we made a ton of money turning it around for Sonoma.”
Despite there being some faults with this year there is “room for more improvement, and an opportunity for more people to play,” claimed Tiana Harris, a senior in Leadership. Many are looking forward to playing and participating in Powderpuff next year.
