Songs That Sleigh
The Christmas holiday is celebrated all over the world and is recognized religiously as the commemoration of the nativity of Jesus. Some countries have their own traditions like the pickle in the tree in Germany and Befana the Witch in Italy whereas universal traditions include giving gifts to loved ones, gathering with family and friends, and decorating with festive colors like red, white, green, silver, and gold, and listening to Christmas music.
I went around campus to ask SVHS students what their favorite Christmas songs were and I was not disappointed.
Freshman, Riley Hale’s favorite song to listen to during the Holiday season he said is, “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer because I’ve been listening to it since I was a kid.” Senior Taitum Israel said her favorite Christmas song was “Baby It’s Cold Outside because it sets the tone for Christmas.”
As for more lighthearted and funny music, Senior Campbell Rolston says “I like I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas…It’s quirky and fun.”
Aside from the classics, newer Christmas songs rank among the favorites for SVHS students. Freshman, Suleika Carillo’s favorite Christmas song is “Underneath the Tree because It has a good rhythm and it’s fun to dance to.” Senior, Chelsea Young says “My favorite is All I Want for Christmas…it’s very Christmassy and it’s upbeat.”
Christmas music is a staple during the holiday season and what better way to celebrate finals coming up than with some merry music to uplift spirits on campus.
