Wrestling Team Expanding

The Dragons wrestling team has a much larger roster than past years. This year, 25 wrestlers are competing, while only 20 participated last year. The increase in wrestlers allows for better placement in matches and usually gives the Dragons more points overall.

With the new league change to VVAL, opponents are “much harder,” says junior Hank Schoeningh, mentioning that “the hardest team is Rio Vista.” This weekend, the team will travel all the way to Gilroy for a tournament on the weekend of Jan. 25.

The Dragon’s varsity wrestling team placed 9th of 27 at their non-conference meet: “Lou Encalada Invitational.” They ended with 90.5 points. The team only has 5 more meets left ending their season with the CIF state tournament.
