Chic Confidential: Fashion-forward fluidity

In this issue, I am spotlighting Grace Utnehmer, a senior who never fails to pull out a fabulous, fashion-forward look.

Oftentimes you see Grace strutting down the halls with three-inch Jeffrey Campbell platform booties, fishnet tights, and some cut-off shorts.

When asked about their style, Grace stated that “ I would describe my fashion as fluid and vulnerable, but sometimes contradictory. I always try to express something about myself through my visual appearance.”

When you look at any of Grace’s outfits it is apparent that fashion is an art form to them, a way to express themselves.

Grace says their style is “influenced by the future. It’s inspired by technology, Lady Gaga, pop dance music, drag queens, and the concept of androgynous hyper feminity.”

Despite her preference of “performative and statement pieces, black clothing is my only staple.” Grace says that if they don’t know what to wear their go-to is an “all-black outfit and sunglasses, and slay!”

Grace’s bold clothing choices push the bounds of stereotypes, by wearing items that are oftentimes seen as controversial, and that’s what makes their style great. They are authentically true to themselves making  a truly unique and inspirational fashion icon.
