The Leadership class presented Field Day on Thursday, Sept 26 — a throwback event that was filled with merriment, messes, and memories. Students and staff alike praised the afternoon event.
In a nostalgic reference to the classic elementary school “Field Day,” Midgley Field and its surrounding area were filled with activities such as colored powder throwing, sponge throwing, cake walk, water-balloon pass, soccer, and, the fan favorite, the parachute.
Kelsey Bauer, a Leadership student and senior, remarked that though its planning was “very stressful, [and leadership] spent a lot of money on Amazon” it was exceptionally “worth it because people seem to be having fun.”
Echoing that excitement, senior Dulce Soto, exclaimed she was “darn straight” excited for Field Day before she had even set foot on the grass.
Mrs. Gray, freshmen English and senior AVID teacher, said that “there is a diverse option of activities which can appeal to lots of different types of people who decide to opt in” and thus, “a vast majority of the school [had] a good time.”
Senior, Mario Montelongo Padilla, claimed his highlight was throwing a sponge at Mr. Tierney.
During this festivity, Leadership gave each student a “passport” that needed to be stamped at each station. After it was completely filled in, they would be awarded an Otter Pop.
This prize created impassioned discourse about which Otter Pop flavor is the best. An unofficial poll ultimately revealed that blue is the best flavor with red, purple, and green all tying for 2nd place — although it should be noted that several individuals claimed that red and/or purple have a tendency to taste like medicine.
