Dragon’s Tale is returning for another year to publish the most significant news and features for Sonoma Valley High School students.
Newspaper will not be a class during the 2024-25 school year. Instead, Dragon’s Tale will function as a club.
The club’s goal is to consistently publish articles throughout the year on this website. The editorial purpose of Dragon’s Tale remains the same as in the past: To be a student-driven publication that provides fair, accurate, and relevant articles for the SVHS community.
Seniors Katie Jewell and Francesca Padilla are serving as co-editors. Nicholas Domitri is the sports editor. Chris Lopez is the photo editor. Staff writers currently include arts columnist Madeleine Edwards, Maryfer Estrada, Sergio Favela, and Logan Taylor.
The school’s journalism program has entered a transition period. Longtime Dragon’s tale advisor, Alison Manchester, retired at the end of 2023-24 school year. In addition, the school administration reported that only a few students showed interest in taking Newspaper as a class for this current school year.
Social studies teacher Mr. Scott Steinberg is advising the club during the 2024-25 school year. His goal is to revive the journalism class for the following school year.
The club welcomes more students who are interested in being part of the next chapter in SVHS’s storied student-led online newspaper. If you are interested in writing stories, taking photographs, or shooting short videos, please contact Jewell ([email protected]), Padilla ([email protected]), or Mr. Steinberg ([email protected]). Story ideas and news tips may also be sent their way.
Alternatively, interested students may attend weekly Dragon’s Tale meetings. They occur every Thursday during lunch in K10 (upstairs in the K Building, in Mr. Steinberg’s room).
