Selling and Celebrating
Students flowed in and out of the H-wing during Dia de los Muertos between lunch and break this past Wednesday which were met with a beautifully decorated courtyard. The smell of hot chocolate and conchas filled students’ noses with a sweet scent, celebrating the holiday with food.
La Socieddad and Latinx sold conchas, a sweet bread roll and cookies for all. The planning for the event started two weeks ago.
The money from the stand went towards funding for seniors who are participating in the club to get a sash at graduation. Many enjoyed the celebration. “I am here to celebrate my culture” exclaimed Brisa Pena, a sophomore.
Dia de los Muertos (Day of The Dead), is a two day event in which Latinx people celebrate the lives of their loved ones who have passed away. A way to celebrate this holiday is to place photos of loved ones on ofrendas along with their favorite foods and other important mementos for the deceased one.
