Christmas and Holiday Alterations Inspired by Covid

During the most wonderful time of the year, Sonoma residents continue to keep their spirits high this holiday season after celebrating thanksgiving last month.

Junior Audrey Powers elaborates on her excitement for Christmas as she plans to, “do an outdoor visit with [her] grandparents again like [she] did for Thanksgiving.” The set up remains covid safe, “[she] usually ha[s] tables and chairs set up in [her] backyard in order to keep [her] family safe to eliminate the spread of covid.”

Powers was excited to share her favorite Christmas treat saying she “loves Christmas cookies. I enjoy the ones with fun Christmas colors and sprinkles!”

Junior Alex Reilly shares her Christmas traditions noting that “this will be the first time since second grade being home; [she] travel[s] every holiday season.” This year, her family planned to leave for Hawaii on Christmas, staying for six days, and come back on New Year’s Eve. However, “we are gonna have to cancel because of the mandatory isolation time required” to travel domestically to Hawaii from the states.

Reilly says that her family might plan to go on their “trip to SoCal instead.” Her most favorite holiday tradition is “going to the beach or decorating the tree on Thanksgiving.”

Even with the changes that covid brings this Christmas, people in Sonoma continue to find ways to make the holiday season filled with cheer and festivities!
