Dragons Football Bringing It Home

Although the football team fought hard, costly turnovers and the impressive Petaluma offense caused SVHS to lose 30-12.

With this being his last home football game of his high school career, quarterback Trent Garrett reflected on the game, saying, “ It didn’t hit me until after.”

The loss was tough as the offensive linemen struggled to keep the Petaluma defense away from Garrett and were not able to open lanes for their running backs.

The Dragons had a tough first quarter, seeing Petaluma score two touchdowns and make two point conversions on both of them.

The second quarter started strong; one minute into the second quarter Petaluma fumbled the ball giving the Dragons possession. Three minutes later, Guillermo Hurtado ran 18 yards for a touchdown giving the Dragons their first points of the game.

The Dragons attempted a two point conversion, but were not successful. Less than two minutes later, Evan Raffaini, senior kicker, sacked the Petaluma quarterback, causing third down and fifteen yards to go.

Later in the quarter, Petaluma scored again but did not convert their attempted two point conversion. Raffaini demonstrated more of his defensive ability at the end of the second quarter, getting an interception and almost taking it all 80 yards for a touchdown, but was tackled at the 30 yard line, ending the quarter. Raffaini also reflected on the season and believes the team “exceeded expectations.”

Three minutes and thirty three seconds into the third quarter Andrew Beatty recovered a fumble to give the Dragon’s possession. However the Dragons could not convert and gave Petaluma possession. Three minutes later Petaluma scored and converted a two point conversion again. Both teams went back and forth for the rest of the third quarter. The Dragons scored again late in the fourth quarter with Garrett throwing a 20 yard pass to Hurtado, making the score 30-12.
