Baseball is off to a grand slam start after defeating former NCS champs, San Marin Mustangs. This win propels the baseball team to a 2-0 record in the NCS division.

This year, the baseball team’s coaching staff has been revamped with the departure of former head coach, Ian Slaney. The new coaches include brothers, Rich and John Blanchard and Mario Alioto.

Senior Tuck Williams explains, “the coaches are the old Sonoma Valley JVjunior varsity baseball coaches, and are a lot better than last year’s coaches.” The new coaches decided not to make any cuts this year, instead choosing to allow the players to stay on the team’s roster as a means of improving their skills.

These players are only allowed to practice where they can develop their talents until they are game ready. Senior Matt Norrbom also states how “the coaches are more committed than last year, which help us improve as a team.”

Along with all of the other teams, the baseball team is part of the new Vine Valley League. TOn the bright side, the players are optimistic about the competition they will face in this new league.

On the opportunity to succeed in the VVAL, Norrbom comments, “we are going to do a lot better this year because the league is much easier; the teams were a lot harder in the Sonoma County League.

Williams also comments on the new team, “this year is gonna be way better than last year because the team chemistry is really good.” There are nine returning seniors so the team is able to work and play really well together.
